Hospice Care for Those in Need Through Medicaid Waiver

It’s hard to imagine a more desperate situation than being at life’s end and having nowhere to live or no-one to care for you.

Everyone deserves the right to spend life’s final weeks with a nice bed, warm meals, and a hand to hold – and the Abbie Hunt Bryce Home of Indianapolis does just that. For years, Morning Lights Award Winning Abbie Hunt Bryce Home has served those who did not have suitable living arrangements or caregivers at absolutely no cost by providing a free place to stay and CNA supervision. Free residential hospice has always been at the core of the charitable mission… but now the Home is able to provide even more options for those in need.

Morning Light is thrilled to announce that the Abbie Hunt Bryce Home is now a Medicaid Waiver Provider under Adult Family Services.

So what does this mean for healthcare providers, residents, and the Morning Light mission?

How this helps your patients: More Abbie Hunt Bryce Home resident prospects will be identified during the Medicaid eligibility process since state funding can also cover other services such as facility stays or home care. This process will emphasize your patient’s choice to stay at the Home, increase chances of acceptable outcomes, and clarify end of life treatment options for those with limited means.

We still have a charitable focus: The Home is still a charity as the Waiver will only apply to four residents at a time in our 12 room Home. We will continue to provide services at no charge to our residents. We still do not receive federal or insurance funding for care provided.

How it helps the Home: Morning Light now have a dedicated state revenue source for some of the residents we help! This will stabilize long term funding and help Morning Light establish a model of this much needed free residential care program.

How this changes our referral process: We ask your cooperation in clarifying Medicaid Waiver eligibility during the admission process for those wishing to stay at the Home.
