Your Story Matters

Imagine your life as a famous movie, what would the main story line be? Who would be the leading and supporting roles? What would the theme be? The questions go on and on because we aren’t defined by a single moment in our lives, but by the cumulative story of our journey.

Your loved ones dealing with dementia & Alzheimer’s find it even more crucial to have their life story known and documented for person-centered care to be delivered. Caregivers can’t possibly know who they are caring for unless they know where that person has been and what has led them to this present moment. Every little detail from sports teams, education, relationships, etc. build the puzzle of their life.

At any given time, your loved ones dealing with this disease can find themselves “time-traveling” to a certain period of their life that they take as the present. If your loved one is not being taken care of by you, then obtaining peace of mind in knowing their care is adequate becomes difficult and induces stress.

A large concern is the train of thought “No one knows my mom/dad/friend/spouse like me, so how can they be taken care of?” That exact question is the reason Person-Centered Care is quickly becoming the most popular form of care, due to the ability of placing the individual as the focal point of care.
